Lady Antebellum Lead Academy of Country Music Noms

In the chaos of the Oscars, I forgot to mention that Lady Antebellum, currently my favorite act in country music, earned seven Academy of Country Music award nominations, leading the field.

Lady A earned nods for Vocal Group, Album of the Year for their debut effort, "Lady Antebellum," and Video, Single & Song of the year for "Need You Now" (they get double credit for the single and song nods). ACM expanded the Entertainer of the Year field to eight nominees this year, but unfortunately Lady A did not make the cut there (probably because they didn't headline a tour in the last year). But, Zac Brown Band did. Who knows. Entertainer of the Year will once again be fan voted, so that means Taylor Swift will win.

It's hard to tell the difference between the ACMs and the CMAs (which are given out in November). CMA tends to skew more conservative in their choices, while the ACMs have embraced acts like Miranda Lambert and new artists before the CMA does. The voters for both awards tend to overlap, so that also adds to the confusion, and honestly, the predictability of the CMAs. We can already kind of tell how the voters think when they give out their ACM awards.

It will be interesting to see how Taylor Swift fares. She cleaned up at the CMAs, but I feel like her stock has gone down a tad, and by April, may not be as "hot" as she was around Grammy time. But, the ACMs have not yet awarded her Female Vocalist, so that's probably the only lock of the night. Plus, like I said earlier, her fans rally, so look to her to win the fan-voted Entertainer of the Year as well.

The ACMs will air live on Sunday, April 18 at 8:00 PM live ET/delayed PT on the CBS Television Network, and I will most likely live blog during the show. Here is a list of all the nominees: http://www.acmcountry.com/awards/nominees.php

  1. I think they should do away with the fan voting for Entertainer of the Year. That way, it's not a foregone conclusion who wins. Everyone knew Carrie was going to take it last year, and she did. This year, it's Taylor's to lose.
